TBS Gemini FPV Racer Looks OMG Awesome

Team BlackSheep, the Gemini’s manufacturer, has revolutionized the way we think of mini racer multirotors. I mean, this is one sleek, awesome looking product. All matte black with neon green propellers, this copter is simply stunning and is packed with features that advanced and novice users will enjoy.

Excited as I am to see this bad boy in action? You can view a video from the manufacturer right above.

Features Galore

Meant for racing, this copter is lightning fast and will dominate any race you participate in. Topping off at 90 km/h, you’ll reach top speeds that heavier models simply can’t match.

The features of this little racer will blow your mind, and its agility is simply unseen anywhere else.

Fully Modular

One of the standout features is the ESC being fully-modular. This allows the flyer to be able to customize their flight and repair as necessary.

Other models do not allow you to swap out parts with this level of ease or ensure that you’re able to optimize weight efficiency to maintain high flight speeds and the utmost in control at the same time.

Worried about your copter needing repairs? Face the facts – racers are meant for crashing.

Team BlackSheep also includes what they call their secret sauce in the design. What does this mean? No one knows for sure, but from the current mentions of the product online, it seems to make the product extra durable and easy to swap out parts.

Speed and Control

The major factor you need to consider when buying a FPV racer is the speed and overall control. A quadcopter is no good if it can hit 90 KM/h, but handles like a shopping cart with a loose wheel. Instead, you need to balance speed with agile controls so that you can maneuver through the air smoothly. That’s not too much to ask for, right?

We already mentioned that the Gemini can hit speeds of 90 KM/h, but this is paired with some serious control that will make any pilot’s jaw drop.

Using a forward tilting motor design, pilots are able to reach high speeds while being able to turn on a dime.

You’ll find that this product is very versatile. You can use it on a straight race, or zip in and out of trees without fear of not making a sharp turn in time.

The controls are based on the Taulabs flight control design, so you know that it’s good.

Video Options

There is a built-in FPV camera. The camera details are oddly not mentioned on the manufacturer’s website, but you have to assume that since so much detail has gone into this product, it’s decent.

If you’re like me and only the best camera will do, there is an option to add an HD camera to the copter. This is what I would feel most comfortable doing as of right now until I had a chance to see how the built-in camera works.

Package Inclusion

Since a modular design is used, you may or may not want some of the options included. Upon buying the product, you can remove some of the included items if you don’t need them. However, for an insanely low price, you’ll get:

  • The TBS Gemini frame
  • 6 motors
  • All necessary props
  • TBS Unify 5.8 GHz
  • 3S Battery
  • Flight control
  • CORE PNP25
  • FPV camera

You’ll also receive the option to buy spare parts. I would suggest buying a few extra props as these always seem to be the first item to break on any FPV racer.

You’re probably ready to pull out your wallet and plunk some money down on this product. Unfortunately, you may need to wait – maybe.

The first batch released sold out super-fast and made it nearly impossible for everyone to buy the Gemini.

After the test run, the manufacturer saw such a high demand and immediately started working on the second batch of the product.

Batch 2 was meant for any preorders that were pending and shipped out at the end of October. Now, you can expect to wait 3 – 4 weeks if the product is sold out before more will become available.

It’s recommended that you check the product page right on the manufacturer’s main site, found here, to see if the product is in stock.

New features and news about the Gemini is still coming out. You can keep up with the latest news by visiting Team BlackSheep’s official YouTube page found here.

Pilots that have been lucky enough to preorder this product and have received their item simply love it. Everyone states how fast and easy to setup this model is. The speeds are also said to be insanely fast.

This seems insanely fast for $600! I don’t really know if you can get a faster model for this low amount. I don’t love the way it looks and here are other racers that look better, but I don’t know of anything faster. It’s nice they included a camera in that price even though they don’t give out details about it.

    • Utah

It definitely looks like you get what you pay for, at least! I usually pick my drones based on camera specs though, so I do hope that more details become available.

  • Olivier

I would absolutely love to race with one of these babies! I can’t believe that you can turn really fast at this kind of speed? I need to see this with my own eyes to believe it. I know of the Taulabs flight control design and this means the FPV racer will handle well.

    • Brahm

I’m sure being an experienced drone handler helps a bit, lol. I’m clumsy as can be with a remote, but I’d still love to get my hands on one of these to see what I can do.

  • Patrick S.

I can understand how the first batch was sold-out so fast! This racer is amazing in my opinion! I think they should just make a bigger batch this time because I’m sure that in a matter of days (if not hours) there will not be any racers left! I still can’t believe this can reach the speed of a car! 90 km/h is super for a FPV!

    • Fuse

Especially with the holidays around the corner, running out of cars is a really bad business move…

  • Alee

It is comparatively smaller in size, making it more portable. The control panel seemed a bit complicated, but I guess one can get the hang of it soon. The speed is impressive though! And it takes really smooth turns too. Thumbs up!

    • Shelly

I thought the same thing about the control panel. I think this would be great for someone who has a lot of experience with drones, other wise I think it would take time getting used to. I love the idea and what it can do but for $600 I would be too nervous to fly it! Knowing me I would crash it into a tree! lol

    • Pebbles

I think small drones are better, at least for what I like to do. I’m hoping it’s less draw on the battery as well. Speaking of, does anyone know about the projected power usage and battery life for these?

  • Greg

Slick! This drone looks incredible fast for its size. I loved watching the video it captured. I would love to take this out on a trip to Africa. A few buddies and I go every year for 2 weeks. Would be perfect to get up close with the wildlife. I can’t imagine how they’d react! haha

    • Hamilton

Wow, drone racing in Africa! That sounds like a blast 🙂

    • Alee

Trying sharing the footage too 😀 Make a youtube video and share the link

  • Raz

A recent snowstorm in my area really drove the point home to me that I need a drone! Even though the power went out and it was treacherous driving, I’ve never seen the woods and all the country farmhouses look so beautiful. If I had a drone, I would have been flying it around and taking pictures all day.

    • Carl Jones

You know my first experience was flying a drone right after a snow storm. I like in a valley and there are parks all around me. It was amazing. I got some great pictures. I make a tradition of taking one of my drones out after the first big snow storm and getting great shots. It is amazing.

And this drone, the footage is an A+ in my book.

  • Alee

The speed of this little guy is amazing! For its size, I didn’t know if could fly that fast! The controls seem easy to operate too. The footage is also commendable. Though the design could be improved, this is in short, a good device.
