Upon unpacking the Heli-Max 1SQ, we noticed that it comes with a plethora of extras. This is definitely a bonus to newer users that will undoubtedly cause some damage to the copter during their initial phase of learning to fly properly.

Included was:

  • USB charger
  • Extra set of blades
  • Batteries
  • Screwdriver

While you won’t need to worry just yet about the blades, it is definitely a welcomed addition as blades can and do break on occasion. There is even a small screwdriver included that is used for the blades.

Now, simply pop the batteries into the controller and copter to test out your first flight. If, for some reason, flight is not possible, you may need to charge the unit. This was not a problem with our unit, but it can happen on occasion.

The controller is comfortable when held and pretty standard. A right and left analog are present which allow you to easily control all of the four independent blades.

You will want to get accustomed to the controller as these are not the easiest copters to fly at first.

The controller is also where you will be able to change flying modes from beginner to expert and ultimately change the sensitivity when flying. This is done through holding the right directional and increasing the throttle.

Changing the sensitivity is a very complicated matter and is discussed within the manual. Thankfully, for new users, you will not need to fiddle around with the sensitivity just yet.

Users should note that you will need to learn to control all three inputs simultaneously. This is a challenge and will take some time to fully grasp. Don’t worry, this adds to the overall stability and agility of this model.

Stability and Agility

While this model does not come with GPS to account for the wind, the price simply does not justify the need. Instead, a gyro stabilization is seen which works exceptionally well even outdoors when the wind is blowing.

Upon first ascending, you will notice that the copter is very stable and fast. The agility seen with the 1SQ is exceptional as you can quickly make turns and even come to a stop with virtually no lag time seen. The crisp controls allow for very fluid flying indoors and outdoors.

There are two extra blades included, but you won’t need them for quite some time. The plastic used to create the blades is exceptionally durable and will allow for a few crashes without cracking or breaking.

While you may not be able to free-fall from 20 feet in the air, I have personally hit a few trees while flying or accidently skimmed a railing and there has been no permanent damage seem.

For the first time flyer, this is a big bonus especially at this size and weight where most copters break very quickly.

Speed and Height

The maximum speed and flying height are not defined by the manufacturer. With a weight of just 1.1 ounces, this model zips around very fast and can reach heights exceeding 15 – 20 feet within a matter of a second or two.

Upon using this model, we definitely have no complaints about the speed or height that is seen.

Battery Life and Charging

The first flight seemed to have a very short flying time due to not fully charging the battery upon unpacking. While not necessary, we encourage you to spend the extra hour ensuring that the battery is fully charged before takeoff. Users have stated a varying degree of battery life with 5 – 10 minutes being the average.

Charging is rather fast and only takes about an hour to complete. You can also buy extra batteries from the manufacturer for just $10. If you are an avid flyer, this is definitely something to consider.

From our own testing and with over 50 customer reviews seen on Amazon, the Heli-Max 1SQ RTF Quadcopter works exceptionally well with excellent stability, controls and agility.

The weight of this model is great for fast flight, but users that want to attach a camera will find it nearly impossible to find an option that is small enough to accommodate the 1SQ RTF.

With two modes of flight, beginners will have a much shorter learning curve when flying for the first time and experts can easily switch to expert mode for more control over the quad.

For the low entry price, this is a great quadcopter that will provide hours of fun. The only complaint we have is that the battery life is a little short, but this is easily remedied with the purchase of an extra battery which is something that most enthusiasts recommend with every quadcopter on the market.

Exceptional control and fast speeds make this a must-have model for the new flyer that wants to test the waters with a durable copter that is small enough for indoor use and performs well even outdoors in moderate wind.

  • With the copter controls needing some getting used to, do you think the durability matches up to that? I certainly hope so, because you make this sound great.

Necro reply, but I’ve beaten the heck out of mine learning to fly quad-copters. So far with tons of smashing, the only thing I’ve had to to was reshape the propellers with my hands (twisting, bending, etc… to get them balanced and to lift again). Not that I think it’d need it… but replacement parts are easily available and pretty cheap.
